Enjoy a bicycle tour of numerous urban gardens, water gardens, stormwater features, and landscaping that use native and drought tolerant grasses for aesthetic and erosion control enhancements.

With California under a declared drought, it is imperative that everyone conserve water. This conservation need not lead to a barren landscape or endless areas of mulch. This workshop will visit 10 different locations on the UC Davis campus that showcase the latest practices in native and drought tolerant landscaping, from a homeowner to institutional scale.

Participants will visit gardens and landscapes that serve multiple functions, from stormwater detention, erosion, wildlife habitat, water quality improvements, to aesthetics and reduced maintenance and water use.

Experts from UC Davis will be at each stop, giving a tour of each landscape and answering questions about design, installation and maintenance considerations. If you are a homeowner looking to replace your lawn, or a land manager at an institution, looking to reduce water use and maintenance costs, this workshop is for you.

This is a bicycle tour. If you don’t wish to bring your own bike, they are available to rent for $20.

Instructors: Andrew Fulks, Ingrid Morken, JP Marié
